One of the oldest festivals in Persian history is coming to San Ramon Central Park. The Roya Foundation's Mehregan Festival — free to the public — brings live music, food, crafts, and a Kids Zone to Sunday, September 27, and the Tiny Time Traveler book series will be there.
Autumn in ancient Iran had its own holiday — and it is still celebrated today. On Sunday, September 27, 2026, the Roya Foundation is hosting a Mehregan Festival in San Ramon, California, and the Tiny Time Traveler book series will be there.
Everyone is welcome. It's free to the public.
What Is Mehregan?
Mehregan is the Persian autumn celebration — one of the oldest festivals in Iranian history, second only to Nowruz in importance. Where Nowruz greets the spring, Mehregan greets the harvest: the season when the fields have given what they were going to give, and families gather to share it.
The name comes from Mehr (Mithra), an ancient figure associated with friendship, love, kindness, and keeping your promises. That's what the day is really about. Tables are set with autumn fruits, nuts, sweets, and flowers. People visit the ones they care about. Debts and grudges get settled. Thanks get said out loud.
For a festival that has been celebrated for thousands of years, the instructions are refreshingly simple: be generous, be grateful, and be with your people.
For children, it's one of the easiest doors into ancient history there is — not a date to memorize, but a day you can taste, hear, and dance to.

The day includes live music, performances, and entertainment, plus food, arts, and craft vendors — and a Kids Zone with activities for the youngest guests.
The Roya Foundation — International Alliance to Assist Children is a nonprofit providing humanitarian aid, educational assistance, and medical support to disadvantaged children. We were honored to be part of their Youth Center grand opening in August, and we're glad to be back with them for Mehregan.
The Books Will Be There
The Tiny Time Traveler book series will be available for purchase at the festival — a chance to meet the books in person, ask questions, and pick up a set for the young readers in your life.
It's a fitting day for these stories. Mehregan is a celebration of Persian heritage passed hand to hand across generations, which is exactly what the series was written to do: take children on adventures through the real archaeology of ancient Iran — the world's first animation at the Burnt City, an 8,000-year-old flute, the Bronze Age metalworkers of Shahdad — and send them home curious.
